In a recent study done among 5,500 unattached single adults aged 21 and older, ‘Teeth’ topped the list of 10 things the opposite sex judges a potential mate on. 58% of men agreed that it was important and an even higher 71% of women placed importance on good dental hygiene. In fact, this factor was deemed more important than grammar, hair, clothes or cars.
So what does that mean for you? If you’ve been putting off improving your smile because you think no one notices, think again. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist and professor at Rutgers University who helped develop the survey, noted this about the results,
“From a Darwinian perspective, good teeth are a real indication of your health — how much you drink, smoke, what you’re eating,” she says.
